Bright’s Christian journey with the United Church has helped him grow strong in faith and learn to love Christ and others. He believes that God calls him to share the gospel with others and to help them grow in their faith as well. For that reason, he finds Knox a great place to be, where anyone can come and feel supported and nurtured in the community, and at the same time be equipped to meet the challenges and opportunities of everyday living. Born in Korea, Bright moved to Vancouver in 2002. He began his Master of Divinity degree at the Vancouver School of Theology and later transferred to Emmanuel College, University of Toronto, where he completed the degree in 2007. He continued to study for his Master of Theology degree, yet God called him to stay in ministry. His zeal for the preaching of God’s Word has led to work at Knox United Church. Having been involved in two congregations previously, Bright believes that his affection for social and cultural sensitivity has given him the opportunity to now speak for God’s people here at Knox. Bright loves to spend time with Kim, his wife of more than seventeen years, and their three children. He’s a great fan of the Toronto Raptors and remembers well when they won the NBA championship in 2019, and he’s sure that they will do it again! His prayer is that with God’s help we all grow strong in faith!

That was a wonderful opportunity for a young person to become involved in the life and work of the church. St. Michael And All Angels parish embraced a diverse multicultural community and welcomed new forms of liturgy and music into its worship experience. During that time, Robin’s sense of call deepened. The Anglican Church was just beginning its discernment process for the ordination of women. After prayerful consideration, she applied to Emmanuel College to begin studies in Theology. She transferred her membership to the United Church of Canada – Timothy Eaton Memorial Church – and was ordained in Parry Sound in 1982. She was settled in the Sebright-Rama pastoral charge, Lindsay Presbytery. It was there that she first lived in the native community and served four rural churches. The learnings from that ministry continue to weave a special place in her heart and have shaped her understanding of justice and compassion. During her years of service in the ministry Robin has served both inner city ministries and rural communities. She was blessed with a long term ministry in Scarborough where the focus was on children and youth ministries. They welcomed youth from all over the area and had a very active youth group. The children’s ministry developed a puppet ministry which created alternative liturgical experiences and provided many opportunities for gifts to be uplifted and shared. During those years Robin’s family responsibilities increased as she cared for her Mother who had Parkinson’s Disease. She would serve on Georgian Island in the First Nation Community and transport her mother by barge to her residence there. That was a sacred time together. She shared ministry there part-time with Bethesda until she began full time ministry there. Her Mother, due to her health issues, could no longer be transported to the island. Bethesda of Forest Glen United Church in Mississauga was an inner city multi-cultural community of faith, serving the east side of Mississauga. They provided outreach ministries throughout Mississauga by supporting the Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Ministries which was founded by one of their families. They began an amalgamation process with 4 churches in East Mississauga which saw a shared ministry develop with Applewood United Church. In St John’s Alliston, Robin served as pastoral care Minister and children and youth Minister. That was an amazing opportunity to serve in a town setting and continue her studies in Education. During that time her personal life changed dramatically. She met Rick and began to seek part-time ministries in order to stay in Ajax. She found herself led to return full circle to the Brechin and Atherley Churches. That ministry held many memories for her, both personal and professional. She was settled in her early years in the neighbouring pastoral charge and had spent her summers with family just north of Atherley. Her spiritual roots were long established in that area. It was like going home. She would serve part- time Ministry and train as a Montessori teacher. Through the years God opened doors of service, and Queen St. United Church was one of those doors God opened. That Ministry has always been close to her heart. The church served the east side of Lindsay with outreach ministries such as the local food bank and thrift shop. Queen St. United has always stood with the marginalized members of the community and actively participated in the National Church Racism and Anti Racism study. That issue touched the very heart of the community. Today Robin is blessed to be serving in part-time ministries closer to her home. She is serving Trinity United Church, Malton, on a part-time basis and she has been seeking new pastoral work as the Queen St. church will be closing at year end. Robin has been blessed with the opportunity to serve the United Church over the years and is very happy to be serving here at Knox United Church, Agincourt.

Ross began violin studies at the age of three, adding piano in the following year. After completing his A.R.C.T. diploma in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music here in Toronto, Ross entered the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, and received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1993. Ross’ special interest in performing chamber music led him to take the unusual step of developing his skills on several orchestral instruments and voice, in order to understand the performance perspectives of his fellow musicians. Since returning to Canada, Ross has collaborated countless times with musical organizations throughout Ontario. He was Director of Music at Mountainview United Church in St. Catharines for fifteen years and taught string, brass, and woodwind instrumental music for the Niagara District School Board. In theatre, Ross has been Musical Director for the Carousel Players, Oh Canada, Eh? and Garden City Productions. He appeared on stage as the lead in productions of Three Penny Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Man of La Mancha. For many years, Ross was involved with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir as Assistant Conductor, Assistant Accompanist and a tenor in the Elora Festival Singers. He currently runs a private studio of twenty students in addition to teaching over 200 violinists in Regent Park, Whitby and in the Jane & Finch corridor through The Hammer Band and conducts choirs at Temple Sinai synagogue in Toronto. Not only is Ross an accomplished musician, he is also an accomplished athlete. He has run 25 marathons or ultra-marathons, including four Boston Marathons, several 50 km races, and races of 50 miles and 100 km. He and his wife, Carolyn Campbell, are enjoying the incredible experience of raising two beautiful children, Ethan and Ella, both already accomplished athletes.

Jayne notes that her favourite Bible story is the birth of Jesus; her favourite Bible character is Mary, and her favourite verse is Proverbs 3:5-6, the lesson of which is to “trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure everything out on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do.” Jayne says that she loves being the Christian Education Coordinator at Knox because she loves being part of the amazing Knox Church family where she serves alongside many faithful and gifted individuals who inspire her. She loves watching the children as they begin to learn about the Bible, worship, and praying as they start their faith journey; she loves the connection that the youth make with each other and especially with God. She finds their energy and inquisitiveness “so much fun”. As Jayne puts it, her time with Knox is one of the highlights of her week. Jayne is married to “a super patient man” whom she says makes her laugh every day and she is blessed to have a step-son with exceptional needs. Their home “is overflowing with joy with two very large and loveable Newfoundland dogs, plus five unique and equally lovable hairless Sphynx cats.”
